MY STORY
Motivational Speaker - Defying the Odds
Travis Warwick-Oliver
I’m a 30-year-old versatile athlete from Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. I currently run a non-profit called Rejuvenate SA. From 2015 to 2018, I split my time between South Africa and Northern Ireland, combining work with travel.
In 2015, I embarked on a solo bike-packing journey from Belfast in Northern Ireland to Sibiu in Romania, covering 3000km in two months. My aim was to witness my friends compete in the challenging Red Bull Romaniacs hard enduro motorbike event.
I’ve dedicated much of my life to off-road motorbike racing, competing at the highest level in South Africa’s national series and the Roof of Africa. I’ve also enjoyed swimming, cycling, fishing, and some mischievous adventures with my twin brother.
Shifting focus in 2018, I embraced trail running through various KZN Trail events. My passion deepened after completing my first Ultra Marathon, the Lesotho Ultra spanning 52km, in 2019.
However, in March 2020, a severe accident on the moto-cross track left my foot injured. Despite enduring multiple surgeries, infections, and excruciating pain, I was told I might never run again.
Defying this, I underwent five more surgeries and pursued recovery relentlessly. Facing the option of amputation due to worsening foot condition, I chose amputation below the knee on February 25, 2021.
Since then, I’ve achieved remarkable milestones, showcasing the power of mindset and determination.

Defying the Odds
The strategies I used to overcome challenges are accessible to all, and I aim to spread this message, targeting businesses and schools.
My goal is to inspire individuals to surmount obstacles and pursue their aspirations with renewed vigor.

“Motivational and invigorating! Travis Warwick-Oliver, otherwise known as “Turbo Trav” gave a talk to the Hilton College boys, inspiring them about overcoming adversity and building resilience, and raising awareness around disability and needs of amputees in South Africa.”

"Travis Warwick-Oliver, a Cordwalles old boy and inspirational guest speaker at our 2022 Speech Day. His message confirmed that the most important attitude in life is courage and character. Sharing how not to let your disability define you - Remarkable!"
"Travis graciously accepted an invite to come & share his story with us at Coffeeberry Cafe via our “True Story Tuesday” platform. Such was the demand to hear this young man’s incredible story that we filled the restaurant on the Wednesday evening as well. Travis left his audience truly inspired on both occasions with an amazing presentation. I have now doubt that we will easily fill the house if Travis comes to share about his next adventure with us."

"I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for the inspirational talk you delivered at Drakondale's year-end prize giving in 2022. Your message resonated deeply with our learners, and the impact of your words was immeasurable."
"It's been a great adventure and journey with Travis to date. Not only has he inspired myself and my team to go beyond, to never quit and to keep moving forward but the work he does in the communities that most need it, is what makes him a great man and a true son of this place."
